PRESS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES “VIETNAM FILM WEEK – THE JOURNEY OF LIGHT” IN PARIS

The press conference for the “Vietnam Film Week – The Journey of Light” took place in Paris on the morning of November 14, 2025 (late afternoon, Vietnam time). The event was presided over by the Vietnamese Ambassador to France. Concurrently, at the Hanoi hub, the program was chaired by Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Film Development Association (VFDA).

The event was attended by representatives from the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in France, the organizing committee, artists, directors, filmmakers, along with numerous press and media agencies from both Vietnam and France. The conference not only served to announce the film week program but also symbolized the spirit of Vietnam-France cultural cooperation, highlighting the significant interest from the filmmaking community and the public in this major cinematic event.

The Vietnam Film Week in Paris is co-organized by the Vietnam Film Development Association (VFDA) and AVSE Global, under the patronage of the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in France. This activity marks the opening of the cultural series “Vietnam – The Symphony of Love,” initiated by AVSE Global, aiming to promote Vietnamese culture globally.

17 Films – A Portrait of Vietnamese Cinema from 1975 to 2025

The week will feature 17 representative Vietnamese cinematic works produced over the past 50 years since the country’s reunification (April 30, 1975), including feature films, documentaries, and short films. Many of these films have left marks at major international film festivals such as Cannes, Busan, Berlin, Hawaii, and Nantes, and have won high domestic awards.

The film lineup spans from classics like When the Tenth Month Comes, Wild Field, The General Retires, The Building… to highly acclaimed contemporary films such as Bi, Don’t Be Afraid!, Children of the Mist, Cu Li Never Cries, Glorious Ashes, Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass, as well as recent works like Red Rain and Hijacked.

Each screening will be a “journey of light,” allowing the audience to explore Vietnam’s history, culture, and people through the language of cinema. The works will be screened in high-standard technical theaters, promising to offer the Parisian public a vivid tapestry of Vietnamese cinema, from traditional to modern.

Cinema: A Gateway for the World to Understand Vietnam

The Vietnam Film Week in Paris is more than just a cultural event; it is an emotional and intellectual bridge, embodying national pride. The Paris event is merely the first step in a journey to bring Vietnamese cinema to many other countries, thereby expanding cultural and artistic cooperation and creating opportunities for the world to better understand Vietnam through film. The event aims to widely introduce an image of a dynamic, humane, and inspiring Vietnam to international friends.

A Meeting Place for Artists and the International Film Community

The event includes not only film screenings but also a photo exhibition providing an overview of Vietnamese cinema, a seminar on Vietnam-France film cooperation, and exchange sessions and discussions with film enthusiasts and young filmmakers.

The opening and closing ceremonies will be held solemnly at the Le Grand Rex and Pathé Palace. The organizing committee announced that many renowned Vietnamese directors, actors, and artists will be present in Paris for the occasion.

Connecting the Spirit of Global Vietnamese

According to the organizing committee, the event was built upon the spirit of volunteering, cooperation, and dedication from the community of Vietnamese intellectuals, artists, and culture lovers worldwide. From filmmakers and researchers to media professionals, all share the desire to introduce a modern, integrated, and deeply humane Vietnam.

The “Vietnam Film Week – The Journey of Light” is expected to contribute to strengthening Vietnam-France cultural exchange, opening up international cooperation opportunities for the Vietnamese film industry, and inspiring a sense of national pride among the younger generation of Vietnamese, both domestically and abroad.
